Welcome from the Mayor of Christchurch, Hon Lianne Dalziel

It gives me great pleasure to welcome delegates attending the Asia-Pacific Cycle Congress. We are grateful to the Queensland State Government for giving Christchurch the opportunity to host this important event, which brings together world-renowned speakers and a superb programme looking at Gearing Up – rethinking our communities for the future.

Christchurch is the perfect location for Congress delegates to be considering how to harness new technology and innovation in delivering the benefits of cycle networks to our communities. Christchurch City Council is currently developing a network of 13 new major cycle routes being built over the next seven years. This network will connect suburbs, shopping areas, businesses, schools and sporting destinations with routes that offer a level of service not seen before in Christchurch.

Our rebuild has been marked by creativity and innovation and we want to take every opportunity to make Christchurch a 21st century city. Once again, welcome to Christchurch and best wishes for your participation in the Asia-Pacific Cycle Congress.

Yours sincerely

Lianne Dalziel
